  • Ion-selective electrodes (ISEs) are electrochemical sensors based on a sensitive membrane, which is the element that makes the electrode respond selectively to specific ions. Measurement of different ions is achieved by using selective membranes of different materials. The ion-selective method consists of a working electrode, a reference electrode, an ion-selective membrane, and an electrolyte. Only the ions to be measured can migrate through the ion-selective membrane and undergo a charge change, generating a potential at the working electrode, the value of which is proportional to the concentration of the ions, and a constant potential at the reference electrode. Based on the Nernst equation, the transmitter measures the potential difference between the working electrode and the reference electrode and converts it into ion concentration.
